DST in the USA Today

Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the USA starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. The current schedule was introduced in 2007 and follows the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

According to section 110 of the act, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) governs the use of DST. The law does not affect the rights of the states and territories that choose not to observe DST.

Confusing DST Rules

Historically, there were no uniform rules for DST from 1945 to 1966. This caused widespread confusion, especially in transport and broadcasting. The Uniform Time Act of 1966 aligned the switch dates across the USA for the first time.

Following the 1973 oil embargo, the US Congress extended the DST period to 10 months in 1974 and 8 months in 1975, in an effort to save energy.

After the energy crisis was over in 1976, the DST schedule in the US was revised several times. From 1987 to 2006, the country observed DST for about 7 months each year.

Ohio Bill ToHave Daylight Savings Time All Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WJW) — It’s nearly that time again to spring forward and gain an hour of daylight. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 13 when timepieces will roll forward and we ’ll lose an hour of sleep. But it’s another sign that spring is right around the corner. How soon you ’ll get 90 twinkles further of daylight It was first espoused in 1918 during World War I to conserve energy, but some Ohioans argue the time change is further of a burden on people’s schedules than a help to save power. ADVERTISING So state lawgivers, late last time, passed House Concurrent Resolution 13, with a vote of 58-33, prompting Congress to legislate The Sunshine Protection Act of 2021, which would make DST the endless standard time. Next over, the bill will move through the Senate General Government Budget Committee, chaired by Senator Peterson.Rep. Koehler is pushing for its quick passage at it’s first hail during the last week of February. “ We simply no longer need the biannual tradition of changing our timepieces,” said StateRep. Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria), a common guarantor of the resolution. “ Making The Sunshine Protection Act of 2021 would not only simplify our lives, it would also help to cover the safety and well- being of Ohioans.” The resolution guarantors also noted the benefits of DST include fresh daylight in the evening hours, increased out-of-door playtime for the children and youth, expanded profitable openings, energy savings, bettered business safety and crime reduction. It’s2/22/22! How long before this type of‘Twosday’happens again? Not in our continuances … “ No matter what we do, there are still 24 hours in each day and the cock of the earth still changes the length of time the sun shines in each season,” said common guarantor Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield). “ Permanently transitioning to DST will only save Ohioans’from the gratuitous dislocation of changing our timepieces doubly a time.” As of March 2021, 14 countries have made moves toward endless DST and dozens more are looking into it.
